The Far Forward region consists of four zones:

  • Tracker and EMCal in B0 magnet
    • Approximate acceptance 7<θ<20 mrad and |φ|<120 deg, with theta relative to the ion beam line
  • FFQ magnet string
    • Cold bore (~20K). No detectors. Possible future upgrade with superconducting nano wire trackers, of particular interest for strange baryon decays, e.g. Λ → p π
  • Off-Momentum Trackers
    • RP stations between 25 and 36 m downstream of IP
    • AC-LGAD (timing & tracking)
    • SiO2 Cherenkov radiator (δZ resolution by signal amplitude ∼Z2)
    • Approximate acceptance for 0.45<xL<0.95
      • 0≤ θ < 5mrad and
      • IP8 OMD acceptance

  • ZDC, 36-38 m from IP
    • EMCal and HCal
    • Neutron acceptance 0<θIP < (6 mrad) − (2 mrad)*cos(φ)
  • Secondary Focus RP trackers
    • AC-LGAD and thin SiO2 Cherenkov radiator
    • Acceptance (P/Z = 275 GeV, could be different at P/A=41 GeV)
